At the time of Sir Frederick Gibberd's second marriage in 1972 there were three sculptures in the garden. It is significant that the late Lady Gibberd's wedding present to him was Gerda Rubinstein's 'City' (see top right). During the twelve years of their marriage the number of sculptures grew and the garden developed into "one of the most important in the history of the 20th Century" (Jane Brown, writer on garden and landscape design.)
